DIY Anti Aging Face Cream

DIY Anti Aging Face Cream

Anti-aging facial products are all the rage in stores. You can buy brands with claims like “look 10 years younger instantly,” or, “permanent results in 2 weeks or less!” These claims and products may work temporarily, but in the long run these products are more damaging and can cause skin to age prematurely over time. Products in stores are filled with toxic ingredients like parabens, petroleum by-products, and even carcinogens. Your skin is your largest organ, and it absorbs what you put on it. Make sure the ingredients you’re putting on your skin aren’t harsh or toxic! Here is a DIY Anti Aging Face Cream with no toxic ingredients. It’s all natural, and you won’t have to worry about it causing blemishes or allergic reactions due to unnatural ingredients.

Woman holding moisturizing facial cream

Materials & Ingredients:

  • A Glass container with a lid that screws on tightly. Glass is the best material to store all natural products in, and essential oils will not eat away at glass. Plastics can seep into all natural products.
  • 1/3 cup Raw Shea Butter. Shea Butter is ultra-hydrating, and provides protection against free-radicals. Free-radicals can cause skin to age faster, which is not something you want to happen!
  • 1/4 cup Organic Coconut Oil. Coconut oil is extremely beneficial to your skin, providing intense moisture and anti-oxidants.
  • 20 drops Rosehip Seed Oil. This oil has been used as a healing agent since Ancient Egyptian Times. The vitamins and fatty acids it contains makes this ingredient a prime fighter against fine lines and age spots.
  • 10 drops Lavender Essential Oil. This essential oil has many uses and has antiseptic properties. It calms your skin, and makes your anti aging face cream smell like a dream!

Directions:

  • Using a double boiler on low heat, melt down your Shea Butter and Coconut Oil until well melted. This should take about 10 minutes.
  • Remove from heat and turn off the stove.
  • In a glass bowl, let your melted mixture sit for about 2 hours in room temperature. You don’t want your other oils to lose any of their fantastic properties for coming into contact with too much heat!
  • Add in your Rosehip Seed Oil and Lavender Essential Oil.
  • Mix well using a Kitchen Aid or hand mixer for about 5 minutes.
  • Place your mixture in the fridge over night.
  • The next day, take out your mixture and let it sit for about 2 more hours in room temperature.
  • Mix thoroughly again. Your finalized mixture will have a wonderful texture similar to lotion.
  • Store your mixture in your glass container. Keep away from heat and moisture, and make sure to put the lid on tight after each time you use it.

That’s it! Now you have an all natural, DIY Anti Aging Face Cream you can use in the morning and at night. Make sure you have a clean face before you apply it, so it will work its best. Voila!

DIY Perfume Using Essential Oils

DIY Perfume Using Essential Oils

perfume-worlds-0001

Perfume makes you look and feel great! Who doesn’t want to smell absolutely scrumptious? However, store bought perfumes are not regulated by a government entity or organization for ingredients. Fragrances you purchase can have any number of toxic ingredients that are terrible for your skin. Perfumes are also incredibly expensive! Why not make your own DIY Perfume using essential oils? It’s a fraction of the cost, and there are no potentially toxic ingredients to worry about.

Supplies

  • A small glass perfume bottle or a handy, travel-size roll-on bottle
  • 10 drops essential oils of your choice (I like using lavender, rose, and chamomile)
  • A carrier oil (I like to use sweet almond oil because it adds more sweet fragrance)

Directions

In your perfume bottle or roll-on bottle, add in your 10 drops of essential oils. Fill up the rest of your bottle leaving a small amount of space at the top with your carrier oil. Seal your container and shake to mix all ingredients well. It’s that easy! Shake each time you use your DIY perfume using essential oils, to ensure that all ingredients are properly mixed. Don’t forget that citrus essential oils are phototoxic , and always read up on the essential oils you use.

DIY Skin Care & Essential Oils

wpid-20150921_150416.jpg

I’ve been using essential oils for a while now, and I have recently been making some pretty awesome skin care recipes using Shea Butter, Cocoa Butter, Coconut Oil, Essential Oils, Sweet Almond Oil, and several other all natural ingredients.

It’s important to me to use all natural ingredients, free of toxins and chemicals. I don’t care to age prematurely, which is what chemicals and preservatives do to the skin. Unnatural ingredients strip the skin of moisture, which is one of the reasons it causes you to age prematurely. You may even see some new wrinkles pop up after using toxic products…yikes!

In the next several weeks, I’ll be posting all natural DIY skin care products you can make yourself at home! These recipes are easy, and I’d say they’re at a “beginner” DIY level. I don’t usually make products that have more than five or six ingredients. This is good news for you, too! If you have a request and would like to know a recipe for a particular product, please comment or send me an e-mail. I’ll do my best to write at least one recipe per week. However, I do write blogs for multiple websites, so please be patient:)

What to pack on a short Summer trip

What to pack on a short Summer trip

image

Short trips in the Summer time… could you ask for a better mini vacation? My short trips in the Summer are usually one of two places. Galveston, Texas or Lake Charles, LA. Tomorrow, my aunt and I are opting for a fun trip to Lake Charles casino hotel, LA’uberge!

This is titled as a Summer trip, even though it’s still Spring. Why? We live in the South…there is no Spring! Here is a list if what to pack on a short Summer trip

Sandals – why pack real shoes? This is Summer, baby!

Underwear – this can be a pain to buy at your destination if you forget to pack some undies.

Tank tops & T-shirts – don’t over pack, if it’s a three day trip, pack 3 tops.

One dress – just in case you find yourself wanting to go out somewhere fancy-like

One pair of pants, and one pair of shorts – it’s a short trip, and you don’t need to change your bottoms EVERY day.

Sunglasses – ’nuff said!

Toiletries – use some smaller travel containers and make sure to fill them with your shampoo, conditioner, and Sun Block. This will prevent your items from over filling your bag! Don’t forget your toothbrush and toothpaste. You may want to also pack your favorite facial cleanser in a travel size container.

Deodorant – you can even make your own to take. Just put it in a smaller, travel size container.

A swimsuit – if you plan on swimming or sun bathing, this is an essential item.

Your phone charger – phone addiction aside, you’ll need your phone charger in case of emergencies, and in case you get separated from who you’re traveling with.

A First Aid kit – bring some band aids, a little bit of gauze, and alcohol wipes as the minimum first aid kit items.

Cash – it’s easier to budget if you spend cash and separate the cash into envelopes for each day. It’s okay to splurge, but you won’t want to break the bank.

Lady products – aunt Flo can strike at any moment. Be prepared!

Luxury items – if you want to bring make up, moisturizer, or other beauty and jewelry products, try to keep it to a minimum. It can end up taking up a lot of space!

There you have it. Read this post whenever you take a mini vacation, and be prepared to know what to pack on a short Summer trip!

The Best All Natural Product Company

I spend a lot of time making DIY creations at home. I’ll be adding more blog posts with recipes soon, promise!

When I make these creations, there is one company I turn to for the best shea butter, cocoa butter, and mango butter. It’s truly the best all natural product company. The company is called Better Shea Butter and they rock! Not only do they have the best quality products, their customer service is on point. Questions I’ve sent them have typically taken less than a day to respond, and sometimes not even an hour.

Not only do they have awesome products and customer service, but they have giveaways on their Facebook all the time. They hosted a giveaway for samples of each of their products, and they only asked for fans to share their page and posts to be entered.

Well, guess what? They sent free samples to literally everyone who shared their page and their post, including myself. Here’s what the samples look like:

image

Let me tell you, their cocoa butter smells like delicious chocolate. Don’t eat it, but spread it all over yourself! You will smell like the world’s nicest Valentine’s present.

I truly can’t get enough of this company’s products. I’m hooked!

Supernatural Houston Convention

So when I’m being a typical Texas house potato, Supernatural is one of the shows I can binge watch in between work and…sleep. If you have not watched the show, I highly recommend that you start! Seasons one through ten are available on Netflix, my preferred method of binging.

I recently ventured out of the house on February 13th to attend the Supernatural Convention in Houston with my dear friend and fellow Supernatural nerd, Corrie. It was pretty pricey by my standards for an outing, but it was oh so worth it. No, I didn’t go on a day when Jensen Ackles (Dean) or Jared Padalecki  (Sam) would be there. However, I went on the day when Jim Beaver (Bobby Singer) and Misha Collins (Castiel) were there.

Oh, Misha.

Ah-hem…. anyways…

I’ve only been to one other “con,” and this one definitely beat out that one. Instead of focusing on dozens of different Fandoms, this convention was specifically for fans of Supernatural, which I felt was a better option for fans. The event coordinators definitely knew what they were doing when they set this convention up. The time line of events was adhered to, which meant fans knew where to be and when.

Throughout the entire convention, there was a sort of auditorium set up in the hotel which allowed for each actor to be allotted about 45 minutes to answer questions from select audience members. At different times, if you had purchased a photo op with an actor, you would know to go line up at a room outside of this auditorium. These photo ops were filled with adrenaline and excitement! Here were the two I opted for-

Jim Beaver and…

Misha Collins!!

The actors were more than happy to pose in almost any way requested. This made it even more up close and personal. Supernatural fans really have it better than just about any other Fandom.

The merchandise booths had quality items at a reasonable price, and the vendors were very friendly and helpful. If you had a question about anything, they were the first to offer up some much needed information.

Everyone was personable, funny, and wonderful in general. This includes the actors and the fans. Everyone was simply happy to be a part of it all. The show inspires many, and has uber relatable characters. It makes you feel good to meet people who had humble, budget constricted beginnings, who later became a sensation.

I will be returning again next year, and will be meeting Jared and Jensen for certain. Is it weird that I’m already excited and it’s a year away? Maybe. But this blog is a total judge free zone. Get off my blog and go watch the show!!

Google Ad Words – A Key for Success

Do you have a Google ad words account? Are you utilizing it to bring customers to your local or online business? If so, you are on the right track! If you’re not, I have question for you… why?

To some it’s obvious, and to others, they may not understand the power of having a higher Google placement. Consider this: 80% of consumers utilize search engines to find products and services. That’s a huge number.
Over 60% of consumers are using Google search specifically. If you want  customers from these astounding numbers, you’re going to need a high Google placement.

If you are having trouble reaching a high Google ranking organically by means of fantastic website SEO keywords and SEO optimized blogs, your only other truly viable option is to use Google Ads with Ad Words.

Think about the last time you used a search engine to find a product or service. Did you click on page 2, or did you find what you were looking for on page 1? Statistically, chances are you didn’t even have to reach the bottom of page one. Your potential customers are looking on page one of Google , and that’s where you need to be.

Google Ad Words, your website, your blog, your Facebook and your other social media channels should all be consistent. Key words used in your website for example, should be utilized as key words in your Google ads. Consistency is key!

If you need more information on Google Ads and which key words you should be utilizing for your business specifically, feel free to contact me. I offer marketing consultations and advice which can be very useful in gaining customers and growing your business.

Benefits of Facebook Marketing

Well I thought I would post something having to do with my job today. I feel like it’s important information that you need to know if you are a business owner.

I am a virtual assistant as well as a social media marketing specialist. I mainly work with small local businesses . I don’t like to work for chain companies or corporate entities. The limitations for large companies are pretty strict as far as social media marketing goes. I also feel like supporting local businesses is the best way to support your local economy!

Facebook Marketing can seem somewhat daunting for business owners. What should you post? Will you have time? Who should you hire to manage Facebook? Do you need a Facebook page for my business?

Yes, a million times yes, you absolutely need a Facebook page for your business.

Here are only a few of the benefits of having a Facebook page for your business-

1. Fans turn into customers
About 80% of businesses on Facebook acquire customers through social media marketing. Why only 80%? Many companies are not keeping up with their Facebook business pages. If you don’t have a page which has at least one post each week, none of your fans are seeing your business on Facebook.

2. Your customers want you to be on Facebook
80% of social media users want to connect with brands on Facebook. If 80% doesn’t mean anything to you, think about this: in the US and Canada alone, there are over one billion Facebook users who log in every single day.

3. Promotions
If you need a very low cost way to promote a sale or giveaway, Facebook is the way to go. The chances of someone knowing about your current specials and sales without being told by an advertisement are slim to none. Email marketing and Facebook are the best, cheapest ways to let your customers and fans know that you have a promotion!

4. Loyalty
You may gain a customer by means other than Facebook. Someone may walk into your store, call you, or hear about you from a friend. Don’t you want repeat customers? Repeat customers make you 10 to 1,000 times more money than one time customers. If a one time customer likes your Facebook page, they will remember you. Why will they remember you and come back? Because they see you on Facebook! If you are posting to your business page, your customers will be reminded of your company. Remind your Facebook fans simply that you exist, and that’s a great start to gaining repeat customers.

When all is said and done….

5. Your competitors are on Facebook!
Perhaps the most important consideration is this: your competitors are on Facebook. If your competitors are constantly updating social media and reminding customers and fans that they exist, and you don’t have a business Facebook page, they are much more likely to go to your competitor instead of to you.

6. A new way to gain exposure
Facebook allows companies to “boost” their posts. So if you have a sale and want people to know about it, you can target people in your area, and allow Facebook users who don’t like your Facebook business page yet to also see your advertisements. Depending in your budget, between about 500-20,000 people will be able to see your advertisement. That is some excellent exposure!

For these reasons and more, Facebook should be considered an essential part of your business plan. By hiring someone who manages social media accounts, you are investing in growing your business. That being said, make sure you hire someone who is qualified and has managed social media accounts in the past. Ask for a few examples of past social media work. Ask how long they have been doing their job. Ask how many accounts they currently handle. If someone is managing more than 15 social media accounts, they may not have enough time to dedicate to your company’s Facebook page.

So what should you pay your social media specialist? Well, that all depends. The cost of living in your area will affect the price. It’s always smart to use someone local, however, to cut costs it may be necessary to hire someone who doesn’t live in your immediate area. On that note, please do not hire someone who works from a different country! Not only will you be not supporting your country’s economy, but there are numerous complications that come with paying someone in a foreign country. The laws and limitations for protecting your monthly investment are different.  Personally, I charge anywhere from $200 per month to $1,000 per month depending on the services needed. Find someone like me who offers different marketing packages. Ask your potential marketing specialist what options they feel are right for your company. Typically, you get what you pay for, and that saying works for just about everything in life worth investing in!

I hope you found this post helpful. Facebook can and will grow your business when utilized properly.

Focus Movie Review

Focus movie review – no true spoilers ahead.

When I watched this film, I had very high expectations. Will Smith movies, while not always a mega hit, have always entertained me. It could be that he’s just such a darn likeable guy, but I do think it’s also due to his acting abilities and the character roles he chooses. He’s one smart cookie!

My expectations were met and beyond with Focus. It’s about a character who is a con man. He’s extremely good at what he does, which is consistent throughout the movie. There are several intense moments in which there isn’t legitimate action–however–there is a lingering sense of doom or excitement and anticipation. The makers of this film succeed very well at keeping you engaged during this non action movie. That can be a very difficult thing to do!

Normally, I like suspense, action, thriller, and horror movies. However, I did not find myself bored at any point throughout the film. The plot and characters are well though out and exciting in their own ways. There are some twists that I definitely didn’t expect, and I don’t find myself surprised by a movie too often.

I highly recommend this movie to just about any genre lover. Even if a drama isn’t your cup of tea, I think you’ll be able to appreciate this particular movie. Your mouth will drop at times, and you may even gasp. A thrill without a thriller. It’s a nice movie to watch amongst so many other movies relying purely on sound effects and over dramatics. This one did not need any of that flash.

I give this movie 5 out of 5 stars. Watch this one!

Perfect Body Butter

Have you made body butter using Shea Butter as an ingredient before? I was having a conversation with Isabella, the owner of Better Shea Butter about it. It turns out, many people end up with a body butter that hardens after the first day.

So, how then can a perfectly whipped body butter be made? I will try to explain what I learned from Isabella.

image

Unredined Shea Butter is wonderful for your skin in so many ways. It moisturizes, protects, and revitalizes. However, it has natural hardening properties when it is in room temperature. When you measure out your ingredients for whatever recipe you are using, make sure shea butter makes up no more than 60% of your recipe. Some good oils to mix with shea butter for body butter are avacado oil, olive oil, coconut oil, or jojoba oil.

After your ingredients are all melted together, let it sit in room temperature for approximately two or three hours. Although it will still be very liquidy, whip it for a few minutes. After this, you can place your mixture in the fridge overnight.

The next day, take out your mixture and once again, let it sit out for two or three hours. Whip it again for a few minutes, and then you’re done!

I’m still not certain why this magical process works so well every time. I’m sure it has to do with some sciency stuff and other chemistry related facts. I’m just glad that it works so well! Enjoy your body butters, and don’t let a hard one ruin your day.
